Wednesday, July 6, 2011 Denali Park

Start mileage is now 20,316. We left Fairbanks about 9:30 on Alaska route 3 for Denali. The road was very good. Had our first glimpse of Mt. McKinley In the distance as the weather was clear and sunny. We all stopped at the small town of Nenana to place bets on the ice breakup next spring. We bet May 3rd and May 5th as well as hour and minute.  They get something like $250,000 that gets divided between the winners (and there could be many) and the town.   Arrived at the RV park outside of Denali at 12:30. We went to Rosie’s CafĂ© for lunch with Ron and Cindy and then they drove us in their red hot convertible  into Denali for a quick look around. When we returned did a few things around the RV. Bruce went hiking up the mountain behind the park for a couple hours. JW made a sausage gumbo and everyone else brought a dish to pass.  In front of the RV’s, we had the street blocked off and after the food we played games until after 9.  Lot of fun.
A cute little church in Nenana.

View of mountains along the way - so breathtaking.

Had fun taking a spin in our friends car.  Was another beautiful day.

This is the view from where Bruce was hiking - Yes, the mountain goat was at it again and enjoyed every minute.  He did end up getting a couple other guys to join him on another trip up.

This is our campground from Bruce's view.  You can barely see me standing in front of a red car.

This was our potluck dinner and everyone joined in board games and other activities after dinner.  No one wanted the beautiful day to end.
