Friday, July 1, 2011, Tok to Fairbanks, Alaska

There was a lot of rain again overnight. Left Tok at 8:45 as we had 208 miles to go. Stopped at a meat market along the road. We sampled a couple different  meats and then bought an Elk summer sausage. Stopped at the visitor’s center at Delta Junction where the Alaskan Highway ends. Took Richardsen’s Highway toward Fairbanks. Stopped at Rika’s Roadhouse for lunch and toured the grounds. We saw 7 moose along the way. Stopped at the Knotty Gift Shop. George was stuck there and we gave a bit of help. Had ice cream cones there. Roni bought earrings. Got to Fairbanks about 4 PM. When we got to Fairbanks, we fueled at Fred Meyer which was tough in and out of. We had a social hour.  Afterward went to Wal-Mart shopping and restocked the liquor and food. When we returned, we went to the Chena River Restaurant with Ron & Cindy and Jackie and Ron. Had a late dinner.

End of the Alaska Hwy in Davis Junction, Alaska.

The owners still grow their own vegetables to serve in the restaurant.  They have kept up w/the repairs on the Roadhouse and adjoining buildings.  Had to have been very nice in its time.

First sighting of the Alaska Pipeline.

Everything is made out of knotty pine.  Not exactly beautiful but maybe a taste to be acquired.
