Thursday, July 14, 2011 Homer, Alaska

We had a free day and what a better way to start than at a Winery - Bear Creek Winery to be exact, with our friends Ron and Cindy.   By ll a.m. we were sampling some very good wines.  Was hard to make a decision on which wine to purchase so we bought many.  All locally made fruit varieties, such as Wildberry, Black Raspberry, etc.   When you have an RV, you have plenty of room for wine.

We traveled around the area looking for wildlife - horses aren't in that category, but beautiful none-the-less.

This horse was happy to have his picture taken.

Saw a family of Ptarmigan but just as I took the picture,
the babies ran into the tall grass.

Always mountains to be seen no matter which direction you look.

Went into town and, of course, had to stop for a beer at Salty Dawg Saloon.  This is one of the most photographed sights on the Homer Spit.  Three buildings were put together to make this saloon - a Lighthouse tower, headquarters bldg used for the Cook Inlet Coal Field and an old post office.

Inside is just for drinking and coated with dollar bills.  They are everywhere.  Of course, we added to the needed collection.
