Monday, June 27, 2011 Dawson City, Yukon

There was a dog in our campground that looked like a bear.

The rain has stopped but there is a low cloud cover. At 9:30 there is a ride to the midnight dome peak but because of the cloud cover we decided to wait until later. I helped Spencer fix the radiator hose on Ron’s rig. There was a talk given about Dawson City by Pat the park owner. Then Ken gave us the travel briefing. At the end of the briefing, they handed out Klondike ice cream bars for going into Alaska. We were given certificates saying we traveled the Top of The World Highway. At 1:30 we all went into town where a Canadian Park employee  gave us a walking tour of the town with history. It was a very good tour. We visited the river, a bank, a post office, a saloon, and some other buildings. After the tour, we went to the visitor’s center and watched a short movie about Dawson. We came back to the RV for a quick lunch then drove up Kings Rd. to the cemetery area. Past that we drove up to the Midnight Dome overlooking the Dawson region and Yukon River. Following that we drove out of town to Dredge #4 on Bonanza Rd. Got there at 5:30 but it was closed. Just took pictures. Had dinner at Klondike Kate’s with Cindy and Ron. Went to Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Saloon and Casino for a Vaudeville show.   It was better than the one in Whitehorse.  Came back to the RV about 10 and it was still light out. Chatted with neighbors for awhile. At midnight it was still very light out like it was 7 or 8 PM.  Roni visited with Jackie and Ron in their RV until past midnight – still light out.

We were pretty well crambed in the lot - nice and cozy.

While walking past this brightly painted house, these puppies came out on the porch.  So darn cute.  Mom was very protective.

Another paddle boat but we didn't take a cruise.

This gal gave us a very nice tour of the city.

All the buildings have been restored to some point.  This was the post office - wish it was actually working - very nice.

There wasn't anything in the bottle - darn!!!

At the top of the Dome overlooking the city.

Dredge #4.  They scooped up dirt and rock, ran it through this machine, caught the gold and kicked out the dirt and rock in the back again.

Waiting for the Vaudeville show to begin.

The guy in the  blue shirt, Chris, is from our group.
