Wednesday, June 29, Dawson City to Chicken, Alaska

Today we left the RV at 7 for the ferry to cross the Yukon River. We were lucky that we were #2 RV in line behind Ken . Roni went over on one trip with the Jeep and I went over on the next trip with our rig and Carl’s rig. After crossing we hooked up the Jeep and took off with Carl following. There was about a 12 mile uphill drive to start as we drove the Top of the World Highway. The road was rough and travel was slow. We stopped briefly at the highest point for a picture of the sign with Dot and Carl. Next stop was the US border crossing into Canada. We then stopped for a photo of the Alaska sign. Got to the park in Chicken about 12:30 Alaska time. It took 4 ½ +hours to travel the 108 miles to Chicken. Along the road we had an RV clip our driver’s mirror and then almost were hit by a tanker truck. In Chicken we had rain for awhile and took a guided tour of the dredge. Then we had  social hour. There was a crazy hat contest which Chris Findley won. We had a staff supplied Chicken sandwich dinner. The RV park supplied a blueberry and Ice Cream pie for dessert. Several of us went to the Chicken Saloon for a drink before retiring.

You can see there wasn't much room on the ferry.  It took two RV's or vehicles of that size and two small vehicles.

The clouds were really low.

Very windy, narrow dirt road.

Yeah, back in the Good Ol USA!!!!

The river was right next to the road - no room for error.

This town, Chicken, Alaska has a population of 4 in the winter.

Our winner of the crazy hat contest - chicken hat!!
