Sunday, June 26, 2011 Dawson City,Yukon

Whitehorse

Couple pictures taken of us on the boat the day before.

Everyone wanted to leave early as we had a long drive to Dawson City – about 338 miles. We left out of town after fueling about 7:30 with Dave and Ron. First stop was the Braeburn Lodge for huge cinnamon rolls. They were about 10’’ around. We all had part of a roll and coffee. Along the way we took pictures of a mosaic sign at Carmacks. Stopped at the Five Fingers Rapids where we had to walked down over 200 stairs and a trail to a point in the Yukon River that channels rapidly. Good hike.
The road to Dawson was full of frost heaves, had construction areas and lots of frost heaves all the way to Dawson. As we approached Dawson City a thunderstorm started and when we arrived at the RV park it was raining. Later we walked into town with Ron & Cindy and Chris & Mary to eat at Sourdough Joe’s restaurant. I had a fish fry of salmon and halibut which was very good. We walked around town a bit before coming back. Not long after the rain came down heavily and lasted for hours.

Huge cinnamon rolls.  This old guy was getting very friendly w/the hug.

Beautiful ceramic sign of the city.

Steps were fine going down but the trip up was a bit tiring.

You can see looking backwards all the steps we had to take back up.
